Biomedical Engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes (e.g. diagnostic or therapeutic). This field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine: It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to advanced health care treatment, including diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy. There is a growing demand of biomedical engineers in the health
care industry for improved diagnosis, monitoring and therapy. This includes installation, testing, calibration and maintenance of sophisticated electronic and computer monitored medical equipment and systems. Research oriented jobs deal with development of biomedical prostheses, various enhanced imaging techniques and advanced micro implants. Biomedical engineers work closely with life scientists, chemists and medical professionals.
